The Alameda County Sheriffs Office Running Team participated in the Baker-to-Vegas
Challenge Cup Relay in 1996, with a goal of completing the race successfully,
ahead of the last position in their division. Happily, they reached that
goal! In 1997, the team hopes to improve on their performance.
Since 1996 was also the first year that theALCO team used Hams for communications
support, it was a learning experience for both the Hams, and for the ALCO
team members. Some of the lessons that the Hams learned while helping the
ALCO team are some of the reasons for the new ICS structuring changes for
our 1997 efforts.
The Union City Police Department will not be fielding its own team in 1997,
but the ALCO S.O. team will be recruiting some of the Union City P.D. runners,
trying to get a better finishing position for the Sheriffs Office.
If you have specific questions about working with the Alameda County S.O.
Ham radio team, you can send email
to Ron Susztar. If you would like to volunteer to support the team before
or during the race, please go to the Volunteer Page,
and fill out the volunteer form.
If you need lodgings in Las Vegas, there are a block of rooms reserved at
the Circus-Circus Hotel again this year. We also have a block of rooms reserved
at the Fairfield Inn. When you volunteer for a position, the staffing coordinator
will tell you what the access code is for getting a room at either the Fairfield
Inn or Circus-Circus. On the other hand, you may want to try lodging in
the same hotel as your running team. Your Team Liaison should be able to
find out if any rooms have been reserved for the team and support staff.
Make sure to make your room plans early, as there are ALWAYS other events in Las Vegas during the weeks before and after B2V which tie up all of the local hotel rooms! Try to share a room with other team members if you can, since this can lower the cost of the trip for everyone. If you want to share a room, please check the appropriate boxes on the volunteer sign-up form.
The following are currently estimates, based on 1996, and guessing. We
are trying to get a better idea from the running team captain(s), but we
it's still early. (This is one reason that we always waited to assign jobs
until 'the last minute' in the past.)
